Peter Alliss – the Voice of Golf

Peter Alliss passed away at his home in the UK, in December 2020 and his sad demise will leave a very large void, he will be irreplaceable. Born in Berlin in 1931, Peter followed in the footsteps of his father, Percy Alliss, who played in four Ryder Cups and won 20 times on the Europe PGA Tour.

Peter, who was best known as a golf commentator for the BBC and ABC, had 23 victories on the European Tour including the Italian, Spanish and Portuguese Open Championships in three consecutive weeks and played on eight Ryder Cup teams for Great Britain and Ireland.

Peter also designed courses and published many books. Over the years, Peter was voted the ‘best ever golf commentator’ by numerous Golfing titles and his broadcasts have been followed in hundreds of countries. Peter has been instrumental in broadening the appeal of golf through his articles and popular Golf books and latterly on social media.

Peter Alliss will be a hard character to follow in any golfing context.
